Top 10 Items We Can’t Haul (and What You Should Do Instead)

At Junk Monkey, we remove just about anything — furniture, appliances, yard waste, demo debris, and more. But there are a few items we legally or safely can’t haul. Here’s a quick guide to what we can’t take, and some tips on how to dispose of them properly in Mesa and the surrounding area.

1. Paint, Stains, and Solvents

These are considered household hazardous waste. Mesa has specific drop-off events and recycling centers that accept them safely.

2. Gasoline, Motor Oil, and Fuel Tanks

We can’t transport flammable liquids or pressurized containers. Contact your local auto shop or hazardous waste facility for disposal.

3. Asbestos-Containing Materials

If you’re doing a renovation on an older home, any material that might contain asbestos (like insulation, popcorn ceilings, etc.) must be handled by a certified abatement contractor.

4. Medical Waste or Sharps

We don’t handle needles, biohazard waste, or pharmaceuticals. Most pharmacies and health departments offer disposal programs.

5. Wet Paint

Dry paint cans? We can haul those. But liquid paint isn’t allowed in standard dumps. Let it dry completely or use paint hardener before tossing it.

6. Propane Tanks

These are pressurized and can’t go in our trucks. Most hardware stores and propane vendors offer exchange or disposal services.

7. Chemicals and Cleaners

That includes pesticides, pool chemicals, bleach, or anything corrosive. Refer to Mesa’s hazardous waste program for drop-off locations.

8. Ammunition or Firearms

We don’t transport weapons or ammo. Contact local law enforcement for safe handling and disposal options.

9. Large Batteries (Car or Lithium)

These must go to a battery recycling center or auto shop — we can’t haul them due to fire risk.

10. Anything Too Dangerous or Illegal

Pretty self-explanatory. If it’s not safe to move or illegal to dump, we can’t take it — but we’ll help you find someone who can.
